Display Rules

To insure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants and public viewers, student projects and displays must adhere to the following guidelines. If the CT Student Innovation Expo staff or XL Center management considers the presence or operation of any equipment or material to be dangerous or unsafe, such equipment or material may be removed from the exposition by management personnel.

1. An 8′ x 8′ x 8′ exhibition booth will be provided with a 3′ x 6′ table and two chairs. All displays must fit within the display space of the booth. No aspect of the display will be permitted outside the boundaries of the booth.

2. No overhead structures or structures higher than 60 inches are permitted.

3. Projects, presentations, or exhibition booths may not display or involve the following at any time:
• Blood products, fresh tissue, teeth, or bodily fluids
• Carcinogenic or mutagenic chemicals
• Compressed gas (including, but not limited to, CO2)
• Controlled substances
• Explosive chemicals
• Hazardous substances or devices (including, but not limited to, BB guns, paint ball guns, potato cannons, air cannons, knives or other sharp objects)
• Helium tanks
• High-voltage equipment
• Ionizing radiation X-rays or nuclear energy
• Lasers (any strength)
• Nonhuman vertebrate animals and their parts
• Organic materials such as water, soil, sand, or live plants
• Pathogenic agents
• Radioactive materials
• Recombinant DNA
• Toxic chemicals

4. Glass bottles and lab ware, either empty or containing any substance, are prohibited from all displays and must be replaced by break-resistant containers.

5. Mercury thermometers are prohibited from displays.

6. Drugs, over-the-counter medications, antibiotics, and vitamins are prohibited from displays.

7. The operation of high-pressure vessels and pressurized systems is not permitted.

8. Open flames, torches, and burners are not permitted in the display area.

9. Food or candy of any kind may not be displayed or distributed.

In order for exhibitions to be judged fairly and equally, there are no exceptions to these rules.
